  • He's here!

Tobias Edward made his appearance at 12:18 p.m. on Friday, February 13. We are so excited to meet him!

The important details for those who like to know:
--born after 10 hours of labor
--weighed 8 pounds, 1 ounce (that's right; he was a big boy!)
    --20.5 inches long

We are so grateful that he is healthy and arrived safely! There were some tense moments in the delivery room because his heartbeat kept dropping while he was crowning. After his birth we learned that there was a knot in his umbilical cord. Praise God for protection!

I just can't believe that he's here and he's ours. We've already had some frustrating moments with wild wailing and difficulty breastfeeding, but things have gone remarkably well. I wasn't prepared for the stress of sleepless nights or the incredible joy of just watching him be. I understand a little better how God loves us regardless of what we can do for Him.

    Isn't he sweet?

  • 3 weeks to go!

It's hard to believe, but this baby could come any time. We have three weeks until the official due date, and we're mostly ready. The bassinet finally has sheets, and most of the baby 'stuff' has been given a place to belong. I've gone from this...

    to this...

    to this!

Guess we'll see what the next few weeks hold.

  • New twist to an old song

This morning our (English) church joined our (Spanish) sister church for a special Thanksgiving service. We do a joint service about twice a year, and it's always a fun time of worshiping in both languages and sharing testimonies of what God is doing in our lives. It's especially enjoyable for me because I absolutely love Spanish worship music; it touches my heart like nothing else does.

One of the songs we sang this morning was an old favorite--"I Will Enter His Gates"--that we sing in both languages. In English, the chorus says, "He has made me glad....I will rejoice for He has made me glad." However, the Spanish words have a little different twist: "Si, me gozare....Pues El ha puesto su gozo en mi (Yes, I will rejoice....For He has put His joy in me)." How beautiful! I can rejoice because God's joy is in me. This joy does not spring from me, my good attitude, or my circumstances; instead, the Lord has placed joy in me and I can take hold of it. And because it's God's joy, it is bigger than me or anything around me. What an incredible gift!

  • Homecoming Day

This post is in honor of my wonderful husband, who is coming home today after being gone for 3 whole weeks! Yes, he left his pregnant wife home all alone...but for a good cause. He was doing some computer training in preparation for our time overseas. Had a wonderful time getting to know other people who are interested in computers and programming and lots of other things I just don't get all that excited about. It sounds like it was well worth the separation and a few hard days.

You know that saying "Absence makes the heart grow fonder"? Well, I think this time apart showed us how much we've come to depend on each other and enjoy each other's company during this first year and a half of marriage. The little annoyances don't seem to matter that much any more; I'm just ready for him to be home!

Baby continues to develop normally and healthily, as far as we can tell. The kicks/movements are getting stronger and a little uncomfortable at times. Except for growing back pain, I am totally enjoying this pregnancy. It's been pretty easy so far, which is a source of great hope for my 3 sisters.

Here's a picture of me and "The Bump" at 24 weeks.

    Have a wonderful Saturday, everyone!

    It's a . . .

    BABY!

The littlest Compton is about the size of my fist (according to What to Expect When You're Expecting) and has finally ceased to upset my eating routine. We got this ultrasound at 10 weeks and were really excited to hear the heartbeat and see our little tyke wiggling around in there. Baby is expected to arrive in mid-February, which puts our departure date for Indonesia back to July 2009. All relatives concerned are quite happy about this latest development and our delayed departure.

We're on our way home from Minnesota after a wonderful weekend. Dad & Joann's wedding was very nice, and we enjoyed the chance to get to know Joann's family.

    The happy couple

We stayed in a little cabin at Joann's parent's house. This is the view from Joann's parent's backyard.

More pictures to come later...maybe...if the end of this week isn't too crazy with Dad & Joann's New Mexico reception on Sunday and preparations for school starting next week.
